BII — Health-Tech Market Transformation Evaluation: India & Africa

British International Investment | India | 2024 - 2026

A market-level evaluation of a development finance institution's health-technology investment portfolio in India, alongside a parallel research analyst role for an Africa-focused investment portfolio.

CONTEXT

Development finance institutions require robust evaluation of whether their investments generate systemic market change — not just returns. This engagement assessed pathways to health market transformation across two distinct regional portfolios.

MY ROLE

Systems-Change and Market-Level Evaluation Lead (India portfolio); Research Analyst (Africa portfolio).

APPROACH & KEY ACTIVITIES

• Conducted 10+ key informant interviews with investees, market actors, and ecosystem stakeholders

• Analyzed 50+ documents including secondary research, market reports, investee materials, and market-level data

• Developed theories of change for individual investees and the broader investment vehicle to map pathways to market transformation

• Conducted market-level analysis and consumer surveys

• Reviewed raw investee data, secondary sources, and contextual materials for the Africa portfolio to feed into the broader evaluation framework

OUTCOME

Delivered market-level evaluation findings to support portfolio decision-making and strategic positioning of health-tech investments across two continents.
